ACT was founded by Dr. Erick Malaret in 1988 with the goal of providing image processing expertise to private and government sectors under the highly adaptable environment of a small company. Dr. Malaret has over 17 years experience in; the development and implementation of algorithms for image processing and statistical pattern recognition, the implementation of electro-optical sensor models, and the integration of high-throughput image processing systems.

Early 1988, Dr. Malaret developed the MSHELL image processing language environment tailored to work with large volumes of data (e.g. planetary data). Early on MSHELL was intensively used within key Strategic Defense Initiative Office (SDIO) satellite programs for the reduction and analysis of satellite imagery. More recently, MSHELL has evolved into a Professional Virtual Image Environment for Windows (ProVIEW) and a World Wide Web Image Processing Enrionment (WIPE).   WIPE, ProVIEW, and MSHELL are fundamental tools in all the satellite image work that ACT has performed.
